Privacy policy

How HollerShare handles files, text and device information.

Effective date: October 6, 2026.

Who provides HollerShare

HollerShare is an open-source file and text sharing application provided by Sergio A Marin (GitHub: highercomve). This policy covers the Android and desktop application and the HollerShare website. For privacy inquiries, email sergio.alejandro.mz@gmail.com. You can also use the project’s support page. Public issues are visible to everyone; do not post private files, clipboard text or other sensitive information there.

Files and text you choose to share

HollerShare accesses files you select or receive, and text you type, paste or explicitly read from the clipboard. It sends that content directly to the device you choose using encrypted Quick Share transfers. The recipient can keep, copy or share the content after receiving it. HollerShare does not upload transfer contents to a service operated by the maintainer.

Incoming transfers require your acceptance. After you accept a text transfer, HollerShare copies the received text to your device’s clipboard automatically. Your operating system and other applications with clipboard access may then be able to read it. Received files are saved on your device, in the default location or the folder you choose.

Nearby discovery and permissions

When visibility and discovery are enabled, nearby devices can receive your advertised device name, device type, discovery identifiers and network address. The default name may be your system’s device name; you can change it in Settings. Discovery uses local-network announcements and, where available, Bluetooth. These discovery announcements are not encrypted and can be observed by other nearby devices before you accept a transfer. They are separate from the encrypted file and text transfer channel.

HollerShare sends and receives this discovery information to identify available peers and establish direct connections. It is used for the sharing function, not advertising, analytics or tracking by the maintainer. The maintainer does not operate a server that receives this information. You can stop advertising your device by turning visibility off, change the advertised name, and revoke nearby-device permissions in Android settings.

HollerShare requests nearby Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permissions to find devices and advertise availability. Android 11 and earlier may require location permission for Bluetooth discovery; HollerShare does not use it to obtain your geographic location. Notifications announce incoming requests and completed transfers. File and folder pickers grant access to the content or destination you select. You can revoke these permissions in Android settings, which may limit sharing features.

Information stored on your device

HollerShare stores settings, including your device name and received-files folder, on your device. It keeps transfer status and metadata while running. Local diagnostic logs may contain device names, network addresses, file names and transfer information. The app does not automatically send these logs to the maintainer.

Settings remain until reset, removed or cleared through the operating system. Received files remain until you delete them. Clearing app data or uninstalling may remove app-owned files and settings; files saved to a separately chosen folder can remain there. Clipboard contents follow your operating system’s clipboard retention rules. Recipients control their own copies, and HollerShare cannot delete them remotely.

Update checks and external services

The GitHub-distributed application contacts GitHub to check for releases and, where supported, download updates. GitHub receives ordinary connection information such as your IP address and request headers. The Google Play build uses Google Play for updates and does not make HollerShare’s GitHub update checks.

Downloading the app, visiting GitHub support pages or installing it through Google Play also involves those services. Their own privacy policies apply. HollerShare includes no advertising SDK, analytics SDK, account system or automatic crash-report upload.

The website

The website is hosted by GitHub Pages. It uses no analytics, tracking cookies or third-party font service. GitHub may process connection information, including IP addresses and request logs, to provide hosting. Download and support links lead to GitHub. See GitHub’s privacy statement and Google’s privacy policy for their services.

Security and your choices

File and text transfers use Quick Share encryption in transit between the participating devices. Nearby discovery announcements are not encrypted, so HollerShare does not claim that every item of information sent off your device is encrypted. Check the receiving device and incoming request before sharing. Encryption does not prevent a chosen recipient from keeping the content. Use the visibility control to stop advertising availability, choose a less identifying device name, revoke permissions, and delete received files or app data when no longer needed.
